Although the Golden Globes were a no-show this year due to the writer's strike, actors and actresses were given their moment to shine at the 14th Annual Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) awards, which were held January 27, 2008 in Los Angeles, California.
While all the usual suspects were there, five lovely ladies stood out from the crowd, and showed they’re anything but desperate. From their day jobs to night, let's see how the ladies of Desperate Housewives measure up.

Eva Longoria rose to fame as the stunning but spoiled Gabrielle Solis. Prancing around in skintight outfits and barely-there bikinis, Gabrielle uses what God gave her to get what she wants: money, a husband, a boyfriend on the side and a string of sugar daddies when times get tough. I wonder if Longoria has taken any lessons from her down and dirty alter ego?
In her real life, Longoria has a similar style philosophy to Gabrielle, but the power she garners from showing off her assets is used for good instead of scheming. Case in point, her SAG awards number was simple, elegant and totally glamorous, while still managing to hug all the right places and bare just enough skin to keep her husband Tony Parker on his toes.

What Edie Britt wants, Edie Britt gets…especially when it comes to men. Overt sexuality, a piercing pout and skin galore seem to be Edie’s style mantras, and thus far it seems to be working for her, especially when it comes to plotting against her arch nemesis Susan Mayer. Nicollette Sheridan is pure perfection as the evil in the neighbourhood, but beyond sharing a body, are there any other similarities?
Like her doppelganger Edie Britt, Nicollette Sheridan has a rockin’ body. Unlike Britt, however, Sheridan really knows how to dress to make the world go, “Wow!” With her flowing blond locks and natural grace, Nicollette brings that touch of class the red carpet is so often missing.

Teri Hatcher, after taking a long breather from the small screen, burst back on to the scene as the neurotic, clumsy, but still loveable Susan Mayer. Wisteria Lane never seems to see a dull moment, especially with nosy neighbour Susan on the prowl looking for the next big drama. She may be a t-shirt and jeans, plain Jane kinda gal, but Susan’s life is anything but ordinary.

She Sure Cleans Up Well...
She hasn’t always struck gold on the red carpet, but Teri Hatcher sure had it all together at the SAG awards. Cutting a breathtaking silhouette in this gorgeous, strapless gown, Hatcher shows she has the grace Susan seems to lack and that she truly is the leading lady in her life.

Prim & Proper on the Outside...
Bree Van de Kamp has become one of the most beloved characters on DH, not because she’s particularly loveable, but because her pure insanity and sheer vindictiveness completely speaks to every woman. As crazy as she is, she’s totally relatable. As far as Bree’s style goes, her outsides definitely don’t match her insides. Clean, neat and in a word ‘perfect’, could it be that she’s trying to compensate for something?

In real life, Marcia Cross is the epitome of beauty, and even better, she seems to thrive on being different from the crowd. Porcelain skin and red hair is not a combination we’re used to seeing from the red carpet set, but with this turquoise masterpiece, Cross creates the perfect combination. A little more undone than her character, Cross still brings that fiery elegance Bree is known around town for.

Unlike the rest of her friends on Wisteria Lane, Lynette Scavo leads a relatively normal life...as normal as life can be when you’re on a drama-filled prime time soap opera. A doting wife, loving mother and powerhouse in the office, Lynette, like many working women, somehow seems to manage it all. Lynette’s clothing choices are practical and functional, and suit her not-so-perfect life perfectly.
I bet Lynette wishes she could live a day in the life of the woman who plays her so well. Felicity Huffman, a woman whose career is on an upswing, appears to have the world at her pointy-shoed feet. Felicity is a woman who knows herself and what styles will make her stand out from the crowd, like her demure and lady-like frock at the SAG awards, which proved to be just the ticket.
